Lakes Kiln Dried Logs is a proudly family-run business, owned and operated by Ryan, Melissa, and their children. Being family operated means we’re hands-on with every part of the process — from selecting the timber and running the kilns to delivering your logs with a friendly smile. That personal touch runs through everything we do, ensuring our customers always receive honest service and premium-quality firewood.

At Lakes Kiln Dried Logs, we believe the best fires start close to home. Our logs are grown, processed, and delivered right here in the local area — meaning you’re not just buying firewood, you’re supporting a truly sustainable local business.

Our story began with a small local log business and a big ambition — to provide quality, responsibly sourced firewood for homes across Cumbria and Lancashire. In 2017, we took over another long-standing log company that was closing down. We saw it as a chance to keep a great local name alive and grow into one of the region’s leading suppliers of kiln-dried logs.

Later that same year, we made a major investment by installing our own 500kW Herz biomass boiler and purpose-built kiln. This allowed us to dry all our logs on-site, giving us full control over quality and consistency while staying true to our sustainable values.

In 2018, we went one step further by powering our kiln and yard with solar energy, supported by an on-site battery storage system. Our kilns are fuelled by woodchip, a by-product of our tree-surgery activities, meaning nothing goes to waste and every log is part of a circular, eco-friendly process.

By 2021, continued growth led us to add a dedicated storage and bagging warehouse. Every log is now quality checked, bagged, and stored under cover, ensuring it reaches our customers clean, dry, and ready to burn.

In early 2024, we invested in a state-of-the-art Pezzolato firewood processor, capable of cutting timber up to 65cm in diameter. This upgrade improved efficiency and ensured every log is perfectly sized and consistent. Shortly after, we installed an additional 1MW Heizomat biomass boiler, working alongside our Herz system to increase capacity. Together, these boilers allow us to dry up to 450 bags of logs every week, meeting growing demand while maintaining exceptional quality and sustainability.

We also work closely with our sister company, Greaves Tree Services — professional tree surgeons who manage local woodlands responsibly. This partnership means we know exactly where every log comes from, guaranteeing only the best timber makes it into our kilns and, eventually, into your home.

From felling to delivery, the process takes around eight days — providing a steady, year-round supply of premium logs that are sustainably sourced, perfectly dried, and ready to burn.
